Fairfax, Virginia Aug 20, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - Old dogs have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and dogs at Friends of Homeless Animals are among the winners.
Friends of Homeless Animals in Aldie, Virginia is one of 90 animal welfare groups chosen from 370 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs. The winning groups received $848,000 in grants to help save or improve the lives of at-risk old dogs in their communities.
This grant will help us give senior dogs like eight-year-old Samson the veterinary and dental care he needs so hell be ready to go to his forever home. Because of this grant FOHA is able to waive the adoption fee on eligible pets and reimburses up to $1,500 in qualifying medical expenses or pet insurance premiums, said Karli Steffy of Friends of Homeless Animals. No one is more grateful or loving than an older dog, and were looking forward to helping more senior dogs get the second chance they all deserve.
Over the past 15 years, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided more than $4.6 million in grants to support its vision of a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, were delighted to help deserving organizations like Friends of Homeless Animals make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities, Grey Muzzles Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. Many senior dogs in the Aldie area and beyond are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of Friends of Homeless Animals.
FOHA is the enduring gold standard in quality for no-kill rescues, saving and improving the lives of homeless cats and dogs. We strive to:
- Bring an end to euthanasia of adoptable companion animals
- Provide a safe haven for abused and abandoned animals
- Provide food, shelter, medical care, rehabilitation, and compassion to homeless animals
- Find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our care
- And, most importantly, bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets and every dog and cat can be guaranteed a loving home
